Fluorocarbon is a mono-filament based fly fishing line but with special added chemicals that change the nature of the line itself with an emphasis on refractive qualities to that water. Not only is fluorocarbon nearly invisible in water do to it not refracting the light that passes through it while in water it also offers a higher abrasion resistance and minimal stretch due to its revised chemical nature of traditional mono-filament fishing lines and tippets.

The use of fluorocarbon is greatly appreciated when stalking skittish fish as well as when water is very clear and thin – great for trout|yellow fish in large still waters and thin streams where waters are very clear.  One of the more uncommon known facts about fluorocarbon is that it tends to sink and does not lie on the surface of water like that of traditional fishing lines and mono-filaments – this a why it is not suitable to dry fly fishing and will cause your flies to sink and continue sinking. If you switch to a dry fly be sure to change your tippet over to one of our REEL Mono Tippets to ensure a greatly increased floating time.
